The idea was born out of a little bit of curiosity and experimentation as well as a need for convenient access to the State of Hawaii’s Water Quality alert system. I wanted to be able to have quick access to up-to-date information on potentially contaminated water before our family went to the beach for the day. I built a web server to stay updated with any new information the state published, found at https://pilaukai.com. This server also acts as the backend data and notification service for the iOS app I built natively in Swift, also named Pilau Kai.
